However, many potential historical sites haven’t been fully explored. One such example is the Batujaya Temple complex in Karawang, specifically Candi Jiwa. Candi Jiwa, believed to be a relic from the pre-Tarumanegara kingdom era, has unique architectural characteristics: a minimalist brick structure with a lotus flower-shaped layout, which sets it apart from other temples in Java that are typically made of andesite stone with intricate reliefs. This research on contemporary motif design aims to (1) Identify the visual and philosophical elements of Candi Jiwa’s architecture; (2) Stylize the architectural forms of Candi Jiwa into a motif design; and (3) Apply the resulting contemporary motifs to fashion accessory products. The design methods used include a literature study, visual observation, sketch exploration, form stylization, digitalization, and product mock-up creation. The result of this design process is a series of primary and derivative motifs inspired by the layout, structure, and texture of Candi Jiwa. These motifs were then digitally applied as mock-ups on accessory products such as scarves, vests, hijabs, and tote bags. This design project demonstrates that the simplicity and uniqueness of Candi Jiwa’s form have great potential to be translated into modern, ethnic motif designs with a strong narrative value.</p> Haidarsyah Dwi Albahi Copyright (c) 2025 Haidarsyah Dwi Albani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-10-10 2025-10-10 13 1 9 16 10.26742/atrat.v13i1.4508 Perancangan Media Publikasi Kampung Seni Jelekong Bandung Jawa Barat https://jurnal.isbi.ac.id/index.php/atrat/article/view/4500 <p>Jelekong Art Village in Bandung Regency, West Java, is a cultural destination known as a center for painting and traditional art. Based on mountain trekking experiences, the work depicts human alienation within vast and unpredictable landscapes, emphasizing submission to natural laws. The theoretical approach draws from mimesis, Romantic aesthetics, Apollonian–Dionysian duality, Gregory Bateson’s anti-anthropocentrism, and Raffaele Milani’s concept of landscape as a contemplative space. A research-based art practice is used, with landscape photography as the visual foundation. Layered pastel and charcoal lines on large paper record both physical and inner experiences. A small human figure facing away from the viewer reinforces alienation. Visual disharmony is conveyed through disproportional scale, metaphorical composition, and color limitations as an ecological awareness. Each of the six drawings is subtitled with geographic coordinates to highlight landscape as a reflective site.</p> Khayla Indiva Pratanto Dikdik Sayahdikumullah Dadang Sudrajat Copyright (c) 2025 Khayla Indiva Pratanto, Dikdik Sayahdikumullah, Dadang Sudrajat https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-10-10 2025-10-10 13 1 84 92 10.26742/atrat.v13i1.4286 “Masagi” Simbolisme Pertahanan Ego Sebagai Ide Penciptaan Karya Seni Lukis Still Life https://jurnal.isbi.ac.id/index.php/atrat/article/view/4504 <p>In Sundanese culture, there is a philosphy called masagi which focuses on perfection and integration of life experience, however with shock, anxiety, and trauma, this perfectionis is difficult to achieve. Thie seven of ego defense mechanisms is a tool for humans to manage their emotions and inner shocks that are felt when triggered by one thing or another. In this thesis, the author aims to represent Sigmund Freud’s five ego defense mechanisms through symbolism of things or objects that close to human daily life as a place to reflect on one’s identity and personality. Charcoal is used expressively to create a different form of Rangda, by further translating the author’s inner experience into the form of the work. This work will take the form of visual progression panels, with each panel connected to the other to display a complete flow. An expressionist approach is used to express the deep emotion, horrific atmosphere, and transformation of the Rangda figure in the drawing. The creation of this final project departs from the phenomenon of the fading value of the pamali tradition, especially the prohibition of activities before Maghrib in today’s younger generation. The visuals of this painting use a parody approach by combining elements of horror and facetiouness, as well as combining traditional symbols.
