Abstract

ABSTRAK Seni Burok merupakan seni tradisi berkembang di daerah Kabupaten Cirebon. Menurut penuturan masyarakat desa Kalimaro, seni Burok merupakan salah satu warisan budaya yang menajadi ciri khas desa dan memiliki nilai penting bagi masyarakat desa Kalimaro. Dewasa ini, seni Burok telah mengalami perkembangan sesuai dengan kemajuan zaman sehingga membuat fungsi seni bergeser. Tetapi hal tersebut tidak mempengaruhi simbol seni Burok karena masyarakat masih mampu menangkap makna yang disajikan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan simbol dan makna pada Burok dalam pertunjukan Seni Burok. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan teknik penelitian melalui studi lapangan, wawancara langsung dengan informan, dan studi pustaka. Adapun teori yang digunakan untuk mengkaji makna dari simbol Burok adalah teori interpretivisme simbolik Clifford Geertz. Temuan dari hasil penelitian ini yaitu, mengungkapkan makna dan simbol Burok pada pertunjukan seni Burok yang memiliki pengaruh terhadap kehidupan masyarakat desa Kalimaro.

ABSTRACT Burok art is a traditional art developed in Cirebon Regency. According to the narrative of the people of Kalimaro village, the art of Burok is one of the cultural heritages that has become the hallmark of the village and has important value for the people of Kalimaro village. Nowadays, Burok art has developed according to the times so that the function of art has shifted. However, this did not affect the senior Burok symbol because the community was still able to grasp the meaning presented. The purpose of this research is to explain the symbols and meaning of Burok in the art performance Burok. The research method used is a qualitative method with research techniques through field studies, direct interviews with informants, and literature study. The theory used to study the meaning of the Burok symbol is Clifford Geertz's theory of symbolic interpretivism. The findings of this study are to reveal the meaning and symbol of Burok in the Burok art performance which has an influence on the life of the people of Kalimaro Village.
