Comparison and Development in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Education in Contemporary Context

Jurnal Panggung in this edition presents a theme “Comparison and Development in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Education in Contemporary Context”. The journal contains nine articles discussing different issues in the area of visual arts, performing arts, and art education. Several articles deliberate on how traditional arts in a current era need to be contextualised. In different areas of arts, traditions become sources for creating arts as well as developing traditional performances as shown in Haris’ paper entitled “Be Yourself”, Daryana’s work about Karinding, Hadi’s about classical dance in Yogyakarta and Latifah et al. about using Keroncong ornaments to improve Western vocal techniques. In the area of visual arts, especially in design, there are several issues in developing design using traditional materials and components as well as tradition as inspirations, as shown in the articles of Fibirianie et al., Mutaqin’s, and Natalia’s et al. works. Meanwhile, improving the function of museum to be a site for historical and educational tourism can be found in Hermawan’s article. Further, comparing ideas and forms of visual arts in different eras found in Adyana’ article about the notable paintings of “The Last Supper”.Those articles offer different perspectives in interpreting and re-reading traditions in contemporary context.
